Watch a recording of the third Hamilton Harbour Deep Dive webinar presented by the HHRAP and hosted by Conservation Halton on June 5, 2025.
Webinar 3: Exploring the Randle Reef Project
Featured Guest Speakers: Roger Santiago and Sara Yonson
In the southwest corner of Hamilton Harbour is Randle Reef—once the largest and most contaminated site in the Canadian Great Lakes. Cleaning up Randle Reef is one of the biggest steps to remediate the Hamilton Harbour Area of Concern, and it is now in its final stages.
Learn about Randle Reef as one of the largest sediment clean-ups in Canada with guest speakers Roger Santiago of the Canada Water Agency and Sara Yonson from the Hamilton-Oshawa Port Authority. This multi-year, multi-million dollar project is a joint initiative involving the Government of Canada, the Province of Ontario, City of Hamilton, Halton Region, City of Burlington, Hamilton-Oshawa Port Authority and Stelco.
The Hamilton Harbour Remedial Action Plan (HHRAP) is a formal process that guides the clean up of the Hamilton Harbour Area of Concern (AOC) through the identification and implementation of remedial actions to address environmental issues resulting from historical human activities in the area.
The Canada Water Agency and the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks coordinate the implementation of the HHRAP with the support of partners on the Bay Area Implementation Team (BAIT). Local coordination of the HHRAP is provided by Conservation Halton.
